This is advice provided by the Department for Education (the department). The focus is sexual violence and sexual harassment between children at school and college.
It provides advice on what sexual violence and sexual harassment is, how to minimise the risk of it occurring and what to do when incidents occur, or are alleged to have occurred.
The advice highlights best practice and cross-references other advice, statutory guidance and the legal framework. It is for individual schools and colleges to develop their own policies and procedures. And it is important that schools and colleges consider how to reflect sexual violence and sexual harassment in their whole school or college approach to safeguarding and their own child protection policy.
Who is the advice for;
• Governing bodies of maintained schools and colleges
• Proprietors of independent schools (including academies, free schools and alternative provision academies) and non-maintained special schools
• Management committees of pupil referral units (PRUs)
• Headteachers, Principals and Senior Leadership Teams
• Designated Safeguarding Leads (and their deputies)
