Barnardo’s have developed this paper which sets out the issue of child sexual exploitation, it’s definition and the children most at risk of abuse. The report details the models and processes used to exploit children and young people.

These include:

  • Peer exploitation
  • Gang Involment
  • Boyfriend/girlfriend
  • Party
  • Online/technology
  • Self generated
  • Trafficking
  • Commercial CSE

Additionally, the report focuses on the‘4 As’ (Assertive outreach, Advocacy, Attention and Access) on which Barnardo’s work has been based from a practitioner’s perspective. This paper has been developed for a broad audience, including those who wish to learn about effective and evidence-based engagement with children at risk of, and those who have been victims of, sexual exploitation.
